Pochettino applauds during press conference as incredible Chelsea stat mentioned

Mauricio Pochettino applauded one journalist after pointing out Chelsea’s brilliant form of late.

The Blues boss has had his future talked about at length in recent weeks and there had been rumours that the club were set to sack him at the end of the season.

So when it was pointed out in his press conference that Chelsea have been in fine form, Pochettino could only applaud.

It was put to the Argentine that only three teams have earned more points (35) in the Premier League since Boxing Day than Chelsea (Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool).

The west London outfit had a disastrous start to the season, winning just once in their opening six games in the Premier League.

But since 12 February, Chelsea have only lost once in the league and they are now knocking on the door for a European spot in seventh, though with one game left they might have left it too late.

Pochettino said: “People are talking a lot in this season. People are talking about many things.

“If you asked me about all the things that have happened over the last 10 months, then I think to get into Europe would be very good for us.

“But are we going to judge people because of the results or are we going to judge people because of the process put in place and all of the circumstances that we have had [to deal with]? That is a difficult thing to judge.

“I do not want to be repetitive but I think that is too much the history of Chelsea – even if we win the next two games it is not going to be a successful season.

“We want too much to [think about] the history of Chelsea. But for me it can be a very good season.”

Chelsea face Brighton on Wednesday before taking on Bournemouth on the final day of the season on Sunday and after three wins in a row, the confidence has returned to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fan admits he was wrong about Mauricio Pochettino and claims he needs more time at the club after Premier League win over Nottingham Forest

Pochettino added: “It is important to keep a strong mentality and really believe that we can get [into Europe].

“It is true that it is going to be two really tough games because tomorrow against Brighton is a really good team and they are going to be really tough to play against, and then [we have] Bournemouth at home [on the final day].

“The most important thing is to believe. The team is doing well, in the second part of the season – in the last 26 or 27 games – I think we are doing really well.

“We need to keep in this way, always trying to give our best, to compete and keep improving.

“If we can compete well in the last two games then we have the possibility to get into Europe, which would be amazing for us.”
