Twitter erupts as Nicholas Kirton leads Canada to historic win over Ireland in T20 World Cup 2024

In an exhilarating contest at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, Canada emerged victorious against Ireland by 12 runs in Match 13 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. After winning the toss, Ireland elected to bowl first, putting Canada into bat.

Nicholas Kirton takes Canada to a respectable total

Canada’s innings started with a cautious approach, but they managed to post a competitive total of 137 for 7 in their 20 overs. Nicholas Kirton was the standout performer with the bat, scoring a crucial 49 off 35 balls, including three fours and two sixes. Shreyas Movva provided valuable support with a steady 37 off 36 deliveries.

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Canada managed to maintain a decent run rate, thanks to contributions from Aaron Johnson (14) and Pargat Singh (18). Ireland’s bowlers had a mixed day, with Craig Young and Barry McCarthy both picking up two wickets each, while Mark Adair and Gareth Delany chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Disciplined bowling keep Ireland at bay

In response, Ireland’s chase got off to a shaky start as they lost wickets early. The Canadian bowlers kept the pressure on with disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. Jeremy Gordon was the pick of the bowlers for Canada, claiming 2 wickets for just 16 runs in his 4 overs. Dillon Heyliger also impressed with figures of 2 for 18. Despite a resilient knock of 34 off 24 balls from Adair and a fighting 30 off 23 balls from George Dockrell, Ireland fell short of the target, finishing their innings at 125 for 7.
