Santi Cazorla has confirmed talks have been held regarding an emotional Arsenal return – six years after departing the Emirates.
The 39-year-old spent six successful seasons in north London from 2012-2018, where he scored 29 goals in 180 matches.
The fan favourite won the FA Cup twice – scoring in the thrilling 3-2 final win over Hull in 2014 – while also scooping the Community Shield on two occasions.
And the midfielder has teased a comeback to the Gunners after he failed to say a proper goodbye with injuries limiting him to no appearances in his final campaign.
It has been widely reported that Cazorla will call time on his illustrious career this summer, where he is currently looking to inspire Real Oviedo to LaLiga promotion through the play-offs.
Cazorla has spoken in the past of his desire to return to Arsenal once he hangs up his boots, and he could be set to become part of ex-teammate Mikel Arteta‘s coaching staff.
In an interview with Sky Sports, the Euro 2008 and 2012 champion said: “I have a very special affection for Arsenal.
“I spent six wonderful years there and I know how much all the people love me there.
“Of course, I was fortunate to share a dressing room with Mikel Arteta and now he is the manager.
“We had conversations about that, but right now I am not focused on anything other than contributing to this club, Oviedo, and continuing to enjoy football as a player.

“After that, we will see what the future holds for me. It is clear that Arsenal is a club that has always left the door open to me to return.
“But right now, I have enough on my mind with the play-offs and trying to enjoy the last days of my playing career.”
Arteta, who was Cazorla’s captain during his time at Arsenal, hinted earlier this year that there could be a role for his Spanish compatriot at the club.
He remarked: “Depending on the role. You know my sympathy for Santi.
“We used to get on really, really well.
“I think he had an unbelievable energy that, as a coaching staff to have someone like that, that can trust with his knowledge.
“But his energy as well to the team. I think it’s going to be valid.”
