Exploring the Dynamics of the New York Pitch: Insights from Vikram Rathour

A low-scoring encounter was played in the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York for the second time in as many games. India’s bowlers were formidable and unrelenting as they bowled Ireland out for 96 after South Africa had bowled Sri Lanka out for 77. Once again, the pitch’s characteristics in New York were hot topics of conversation. The ball had a lot of movement and a fluctuating bounce, which kept the hitters guessing, but some, like India’s skipper Rohit Sharma, took hits in the team’s easily defeated eight-wicket victory.

The surface in New York for India’s opening Group A match was difficult for the hitters, according to batting coach Vikram Rathour, but the team is prepared to find solutions for difficult circumstances, particularly because they will play Pakistan on June 9 at the same location.

“It is a challenging wicket as far as batting is concerned but this is what we have so we need to find ways to deal with it. Like I said earlier, we have enough skills and experience in the batting group especially to deal with that. We have enough good batters who can manage to bat well on any kind of surface. I think that has been our strength for many, many years.

“I think we can adapt really well to different conditions, and I think on this surface you really need to adapt well and take it head-on and not worry about it too much and you’re right – we have everybody fit, and they’re all looking good. They’re all batting well; so it’s a good space to be as a batting coach,” said Rathour in the post-match press conference.

He clarified that India possesses the ability to adjust well to the circumstances presented to it. “They’ve been playing cricket in the Twenty20 format for quite some time. Our batting lineup is really versatile, in my opinion. We have long been strong because of our ability to quickly adjust to changing circumstances.”

Team India is set to face their arch-rivals Pakistan at the same venue this Sunday.
