WWE preparing for potential loss of elite high-flyer

Ricochet’s WWE contract is running down.

He’s expected to leave the company at the end of his deal despite interest in signing him a new contract. AEW is reportedly interested in adding him to its already talented roster.

According to a report from Fightful Select, WWE is already developing creative plans to remove Ricochet from its roster.

“We’re told that creative measures have already been taken to write off Ricochet in the event that he does leave,” Fightful select reported. “Part of that was him dropping the WWE Speed Championship to Andrade at this past week’s Smackdown tapings.”

Ricochet has found himself mired in mid-card irrelevancy for most of his tenure with WWE. He has seldom been allowed to show the talent that made him a major draw on the indie and alternate wrestling scenes.

AEW’s Will Ospreay recently shared his desire to put Ricochet in a position to shine with a new company.

“I don’t know how much longer he has got in his contract, but I think it might be up soon, man, I don’t know,” Ospreay told ComicBook.com. “I want him to know that there are people here that genuinely appreciate his work and I want to wrestle him again. I want him back here.”

Other companies will likely show interest in Ricochet once he hits the free agent market. New Japan Pro Wrestling is rebuilding its roster after losing multiple top stars in recent months. TNA could also look to sign the high-flyer and use him as a major draw as it looks to build some momentum.

Nevertheless, AEW feels like the most likely landing spot. Ricochet fits their style of wrestling and he would instantly be thrust into multiple storylines, with Ospreay being a logical opponent. The fit makes sense for Ricochet and for AEW as a company.

However, until a contract is signed, nothing can be taken for granted. For now, Ricochet remains a part of WWE. What happens next is anyone’s guess. However, his time with the company appears to be nearing its end.
