King’s retain indoor title and St George’s take UH Shield – LUCA

King’s Vice President Isabel Walton scored a championship leading 12 points to help earn King’s a third successive indoors title. Walton took gold in the 200m and triple jump and silver in the 60mH and high jump to claim the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP).

King’s won the LUCA title in a day of high drama. The University of Kent lead the way for much of the day and demonstrated impressive breadth with points coming from across track and field. But King’s stretched into the lead during the finals to end five points ahead of Kent. Noteworthy victories include the women’s 400m in which King’s athletes Elena Rodopoulou and Leila Scharnholz claimed gold and silver and the relay’s in which King’s claimed double gold.

St George’s retain the UH Shield.

St George’s may have been unsettled by early reports that GKT had taken the lead in the UH Shield, but strength in depth saw them come away with their sixth title in a row. St George’s also claimed a gold medal in the 3K with Grace Leyland winning in 10:08.12.

There was a debut from the University of the Arts London who came away with two medals including gold in the men’s 3K. Hugo Donovan, who is currently leading the XC League, won the 3K in a championship record breaking time of 8:42.56.

There were other records broken too. Emily Davies (LSE) claimed two gold medals and two championship records. In the 800m she won in 2:16.17 and in the 1500m she clocked 4:42.00. Both records had stood since 2016.

MVP Winner Isobel Walton with Christian Pugsley LUCA Athletics Organising Committee Chair.

The Men’s 1500m record was also broken by Alex Goodall (Imperial) in a time of 4:04.10. Goodall also claimed gold in the 800m.

History was made in the men’s 60m where the Zack Clarke-Green from the University of Portsmouth broke the seven second barrier with a championship record time of 6.99.
