Sitanshu Kotak, India’s new batting coach, has said that Mohammed Shami is fit. still, he’s being observed, and his addition in the T20I series will be decided by the captain and head coach. Shami, who last played in an Indian platoon in the ODI World Cup final in November 23, has been named for the ongoing T20I series in five matches, three ODIs, and the Champions Trophy.

His absence from the side in the first two T20Is raised questions about his fitness. But Kotak clarified that the seasoned leader had no fitness issues.” Yes, Shami is fit but commodity about him playing or not playing, I’m not the one to answer,” Kotak told the journalists at the dusk of the third T20I.

Kotak went on to mention that the responsibility of managing Shami’s workload until important events, including the Champions Trophy, starting February 19, will fall on Captain Suryakumar Yadav and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir.

” There’s surely a plan( for Shami) for coming matches as well and ODIs, but the coach Gautam and obviously Surya will take a call. And fitness, surely not a problem depending on how they’re planning to make this draft,” Kotak added.

Shami has faced some injury concerns ever since he went under the blade for ankle surgery in February of last time. Although there were voices claiming that Shami shall be included in the Test team for the series against Australia, he did n’t recover in time following the active participation in the shorter formats of domestic justice.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah’s vacuity for the Champions Trophy depends on his recovery and the Indian team management’s preference, with Mohammed Shami being prioritised for the 50- over format.
