As the final day of the NBA regular season commences, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is set to accomplish an impressive milestone that will place him with other NBA legends.
Antetokounmpo is likely to earn his seventh consecutive All-NBA First Team selection after having another prolific campaign. The two-time MVP averages 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists while shooting 60.1 percent from the field. This is the second consecutive season Antetokounmpo has shot over 60 percent from the field and averaged over 30 points per game.
Since the 2021 NBA champion is likely to make the All-NBA First Team, Antetokounmpo will join NBA greats such as Elgin Baylor, Shaquille O’Neal and Michael Jordan as players who have made at least seven consecutive nods to the All-NBA First Team.
The Bucks superstar has already eclipsed legendary players such as Kevin Durant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon and Wilt Chamberlain when it comes to this astonishing feat. LeBron James currently has the most consecutive All-NBA First Team nods with 11.
Although the 2020 Defensive Player of the Year relies on his sheer athleticism and power, there has been no sign of decline in his performance as he finishes his 12th NBA season. If Antetokounmpo can continue to stay healthy, perhaps he could either tie or exceed James in that regard.
Other notable players who have more consecutive All-NBA First Team selections than Antetokounmpo are Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson, Bob Cousy, Karl Malone and Bob Pettit.
The Bucks are set to face the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs. The upcoming playoff matchup is a rematch of last year’s postseason when the Pacers eliminated the Bucks, 4-2, in the first round.
Milwaukee has been without Damian Lillard due to him being diagnosed with blood clots in his right calf. Lillard has missed the last 13 games for the Bucks and it remains to be seen if he will return for the playoffs.
Regardless of how Milwaukee’s postseason turns out, Antetokounmpo has once again garnered another historic season.
