The USL Super League is nearing the end of its inaugural season! Some of the faces we’ve seen in these games have been familiar, while others are completely new to us. As we head into the last stretch of the season, these are the standout players we’ve seen!
Addie McCain (Fort Lauderdale United FC)
McCain for Fort Lauderdale United is one of the top scorers in the league, currently one of the front-runners for Golden Boot and Player of the Year. McCain leads in most of the offensive statistics on her team and is a real leader for this young team.
Sealey Strawn (Dallas Trinity FC)
One of Dallas Trinity’s best players is also their youngest. Sealey Strawn came in as a sub and has been lighting up the pitch ever since. Currently at camp for the U-18 national team, Strawn has 13 appearances and two goals, one of which was a game winner. Strawn is a shoo-in for Young Player of the Year.
Emina Ekic (Spokane Zephyr)
Emina Ekic is a special player for the Zephyr and one of their finest. Ekic scored the first goal in the franchise’s history and currently has five goals under her belt.
Audrey Harding (Carolina Ascent FC)
Carolina Ascent is the top team in the league, and that’s due in large part to Audrey Harding. Harding has two goals and four assists, solidifying Harding as a playmaker. She is an assist machine and continuously creates opportunities for Ascent.
Brooke Hendrix (Tampa Bay Sun FC)
There are a lot of top defenders in this league, but Brooke Hendrix has something special. Hendrix is a machine on the back line. She leads the league in blocks and clearances, making it a tall order to score against Tampa Bay Sun.
Sam Kroeger (Brooklyn FC)
Brooklyn had a rough start to the beginning of the season, but has begun to turn it around, and a lot of their course correction is thanks to Sam Kroeger. A killer defensive midfielder, Kroeger has given Brooklyn the space it needs to come into their own as a team. Their 4-1-4-1 formation leaves Kroeger alone in the defensive mid, which she has taken in stride and really proved herself as a leader.
Gianna Gourley (DC Power)
Gianna Gourley has had an interesting journey in the Super League but she’s really found her place in DC. Gourley started with Fort Lauderdale, where she had nine caps but no goals. Since her loan went through, she has managed four goals and an assist–a huge switch. She’s currently DC’s top scorer by double.
Sydney Shepherd (Lexington SC)
Sydney Shepherd is a defender, but she can transcend positions. She works hard for Lexington on both sides of the field, with four points under her belt. She has great energy and vision as a defensive player, which gives Lexington a competitive edge.
