Good or bad? Shedeur Sanders is compared to Johnny Manziel during his draft collapse ahead of the NFL Draft

Given this scenario, the former Colorado Buffaloes player has been linked to various teams, but nothing is concrete yet.

    Compared to Johnny Manziel

Many speculated that the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, or New Orleans Saints could be potential destinations, but as rumors swirl, a comparison has emerged with a talent who arrived in the NFL but never fully lived up to expectations.

ESPN analyst Peter Schrager didn’t place Sanders with any of the mentioned teams but drew a parallel between Sanders’ situation and that of former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel when he awaited his name in the 2014 NFL Draft.

“Shedeur Sanders is the most interesting draft prospect since Johnny Manziel,” Schrager said on the Get Up podcast. “Yes, I’m going back that far, in which this guy could go as high as No. 2 overall or slip to the end of the first round or early second. I don’t remember a draft where a player that’s not the blue-chip, first guy is the one we’re talking about every single day.”

For context, many expected Johnny Manziel to be an early first-round pick, but he wasn’t selected until the 22nd pick by the Cleveland Browns, while his teammates Jake Matthews and Mike Evans went sixth and seventh to the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, respectively.

Now, Sanders isn’t embroiled in the same controversies as “Johnny Football,” so his path may differ. An even more surprising scenario would be if he’s selected before Heisman winner Travis Hunter or Cam Ward, who is projected as the No. 1 pick.

The 2025 NFL Draft will take place on April 24 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where Shedeur Sanders will finally learn his NFL fate-whether he lands in the top 10 picks or falls later.
