Catherine Reline Writes history at Abu Dhabi marathon – Athletics News

Kenya’s Catherine Amanang’ole Reline wrote history as the first woman to defend her title back to back at 7th edition of the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon held on Saturday (13) in Abu Dhabi.

The 23 year-old who quit track running this year to concentrate on road running, won her first title on this course last year with a personal best of 2:20.34, beat a strong field that included double world Marathon champion, Edna Kiplagat.

The reigning World Road Running half marathon bronze medalist, won her second marathon title with a time of 2:21.17 and was followed a distant later by the 46 year-old Kiplagat, who pulled 2:25.07 with Ethiopia’s Burtukan Bekele wrapping up the podium in 2:25.25.

The race course record of 2:19.15, set two years ago by Tokyo Olympics Marathon silver medallist, Brigid Kosgei from Kenya remains standing.
