“Another bust QB selection,””They’re idiots”: NFL fans react to $6,400,000,000 AFC team doing “extensive research” on Ty Simpson

The Cleveland Browns could draft another quarterback in April despite selecting two in 2025. They reportedly have their eyes set on Alabama’s Ty Simpson.

NFL draft analyst Tony Pauline reported on Sunday that Cleveland, valued at $6.4 billion by Forbes, has been doing “extensive work” on Simpson ahead of the draft.

“It was reported by other outlets before the combine that the Cleveland Browns have an interest in the former Alabama quarterback, and I am told they are doing extensive work on Simpson,” Pauline wrote on Essentially Sports.

The Browns own two first-round picks and could take Simpson with one of them.

Here’s a look at how fans reacted to the report on X.

“How many QBs do they need?” one fan wrote.

“They would they are idiots,” one fan tweeted.

“Browns gonna brown,” another fan wrote.

“Another bust QB selection for the dog shit browns,” one fan commented.

“If they took him at 6, the Haslam family needs to be investigated for fraud,” a fan said.

“That’s crazy. They’re gonna try to replace their Pro Bowl quarterback?” another fan said.

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to select Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza at No. 1. Some analysts projected Simpson to be next quarterback drafted.

He was only a starter for one year in his four-season tenure with the Crimson Tide. Simpson showed flashes of brilliance early in the 2025 campaign, posting 2,461 yards, 21 touchdowns and one interception in his first nine games.

However, his production dipped down the stretch. He recorded 1,106 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions in the last six games of the season.

Ty Simpson reveals he is familiar with Browns coach Todd Monken

If the Cleveland Browns land Ty Simpson, it would be a “dream come true” for him. The Alabama quarterback’s father, Jason, is the coach of the UT Martin Skyhawks and is friends with Browns coach Todd Monken.

Their relationship started during Monken’s run as coach of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles between 2013 and 2015. Jason, who played quarterback for the Mississippi State Bulldogs and also played baseball for Southern Miss, connected with Monken during those years.

“My dad and coach Monken go way back,” Simpson said to reporters on Friday. “They talk often. He texted him when he got the job and they’ve texted a little bit, so if I had the opportunity to play for the Browns, it would be a dream come true.”

Simpson has drawn attention from Monken and the Browns throughout the pre-draft period, including a formal evaluation at the scouting combine.

Owning the No. 6 and No. 24 picks, Cleveland could select Simpson. However, the question remains whether the team is willing to use a first-round pick on a quarterback only started one season in college.
