With the NHL trade deadline approaching on March 6, New York Rangers center Vincent Trocheck addressed his situation in New York with reporters on Monday. He acknowledged the likelihood of a trade and outlined his preferences for his next destination.
Rangers beat writer Vince Z. Mercogliano shared that he spoke with Trocheck who was forthcoming about the reality he faces as the deadline nears.
“Just had a good, open convo with Vincent Trocheck, who very much realizes a trade could be coming,” Mercogliano reported. “He said winning is a priority for his next destination and he confirmed that he prefers to stay east. ‘It’s no secret. (West teams) are on my no-trade list.'”
When asked about his priorities for a potential trade destination, Trocheck made clear what he is looking for at this stage of his career.
“I would like to go to a good team, not one that is in same situation as the Blueshirts,” Trocheck said. “And I am 32 years old, I would like to win a Stanley Cup.”
The veteran center addressed speculation about his geographic preferences confirming reports that have circulated on social media.
“I’m sure you’re relating to the ‘I don’t want to be out West’ talk on Instagram or Twitter or whatever,” Trocheck said. “And, yeah, it’s not a secret. They are on my no-trade list.”
Trocheck originally signed a seven-year $39.375 million contract with the NY Rangers in July 2022 carrying a $5.625 million cap hit through the 2028-29 season. This season, he has recorded 38 points (12 goals, 26 assists) in 45 games while averaging 20:53 of ice time per game.
Since joining the Rangers, Trocheck has appeared in 291 games totaling 85 goals and 238 points.
Vicnent Trocheck identified personal reason behind East Coast preference
Trocheck’s contract includes a 12-team no-trade clause for the 2025-26 season and he confirmed that Western Conference teams occupy those slots.
His reasoning centers on family considerations.
“Family’s important to me, and my family’s on the East Coast,” Trocheck explained.
When discussing the personal impact of a potential move, Trocheck pointed out where his focus lies.
“I’m not worried about myself,” he said. “I’m more worried about my family. That’s the only thing I have to worry about.”
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers are maintaining a high asking price for Trocheck. The Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings and Carolina Hurricanes have been identified as the primary teams pursuing the center with the Wild reportedly turning out to be a frontrunner.
All three potential destinations align with Trocheck’s stated preference to remain on the East Coast though the Wild would require him to waive his no-trade protection.
