Sloane Stephens vs Camila Osorio preview

Sloane Stephens and Camila Osorio are set to lock horns in women’s singles first round action at the 2026 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
Stephens received a wildcard entry into the Indian Wells main draw. The American former World No. 3, currently ranked No. 780 in the world, has featured in only two tournaments so far this year. At the ASB Classic in Auckland, she suffered a first-round loss. Subsequently, at the Australian Open, she qualified for the main draw but was then eliminated in the first round by former No. 1 Karolina Pliskova.
The 2017 US Open champion was not in action in the Middle East Swing and also withdrew from the Merida Open after announcing that she and Jozy Altidore, the American former soccer star, are no longer married.
Meanwhile, Osorio, the World No. 61 from Colombia, has been far more involved in competitive action this year than Stephens. The Colombian began the season poorly, suffering back-to-back first-round losses spanning Auckland, Hobart and Melbourne. Her fortunes though, changed significantly at the WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open, where she won the title.
More recently, she qualified for the Doha main draw before losing to Jelena Ostapenko in the third round. Subsequently, she retired mid-match during her second-round outing against Katie Boulter at the Merida Open with a shoulder problem.

Sloane Stephens vs Camila Osorio prediction
Osorio is the heavy favourite entering this first career meeting against Stephens. While the 32-year-old American is a former US Open champion with a storied history at Indian Wells (2014 quarterfinalist), she enters the tournament following a period of limited play and personal recovery.
In contrast, the 24-year-old Colombian is in strong form, having already secured notable wins against top players like Emma Raducanu and Donna Vekic. Osorio’s consistency and superior court coverage this season are expected to overwhelm Stephens, who may struggle to find her rhythm in her first competitive appearance since the Australian Open.
Prediction: Osorio to win in straight sets.
Sloane Stephens vs Camila Osorio betting tips
Tip 1: For better returns than a straight win, consider Osorio to win 2-0 in sets, given Stephens’ historically slow starts when returning from injury layoffs.
Tip 2: Although Stephens successfully qualified for the Australian Open in January, her lack of consistent high-level match play makes her a risky bet.
