Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are all set to make a massive appointment just after their early exit from T20 World Cup 2026. Their first focus will be on the red-ball team as the new head coach will be there in this format.
As per the reports in Geo News, the Pakistan Cricket Board is all set to appoint Sarfaraz Ahmed as the new head coach in Tests. Pakistan’s head coach position has been lying vacant for around five months now after the Test series against South Africa.
Azhar Mahmood served as the interim head coach for the South Africa series. But now, the permanent head coach in Sarfaraz Ahmed will take over the charge. The official announcement in this regard will be made very soon.
Sarfaraz Ahmed to take over as Pakistan’s head coach from the Bangladesh series
As per the reports, Sarfaraz Ahmed will take over as Pakistan’s head coach from Bangladesh series in May. His appointment came after he recently guided Pakistan U19 to the Asia Cup 2025 win as he was the mentor of the team.
Sarfaraz impressed with his coaching skills and this made PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi appoint him as head coach. The keeper-batter also won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, where his side beat India in the final to lift the trophy.
Sarfaraz has played 54 Tests for Pakistan and has amassed 3,031 runs, including four centuries and 21 half-centuries. He captained Pakistan in 13 games and won four of them, including a famous win at Lord’s against England in 2018.
In the limited-overs format, Sarfaraz Ahmed featured in 117 ODIs, scoring 2,315 runs with two centuries and 11 fifties, and played 61 T20Is, accumulating 818 runs.
