Aston Villa have been knocking at the door to sign a “brilliant” player, who could be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Villans eyeing low-cost addition despite making £17m profit
Villa posted their 2024/25 accounts at the end of last month, which showed they made a £17m profit after tax, and former chief Chris Heck has suggested they are now in a far stronger position financially.
A supporter posted on X: “These are strong accounts. Villa have turned a corner financially. Record top line, first profit in ages, heavy but targeted investment in the future, and actual PSR flexibility heading into the next windows. No more “we must flog Watkins or Rogers” nonsense every close season. The club is in a far healthier spot than 12-18 months ago.”
To which Heck responded: “You nailed it. Now we need to see smart spending to keep this juggernaut going.”
The fact the Villans may not be forced to cash-in on their key players this summer will be welcome news for Unai Emery, and the manager will no doubt be hoping the healthier financial situation will allow him to strengthen his squad this summer.
However, despite the encouraging recent news, NSWE are still planning to be savvy in the summer, with a new report dropping an update on their pursuit of a player who is currently set to be available on a free transfer.
Villa in strong position to sign “brilliant” player
According to a report from Spain (via Sport Witness), Celta Vigo are desperately trying to extend Oscar Mingueza’s contract, with the defender’s current deal set to expire in the summer, and the Spanish side have made him an offer worth €4m (£3.5m) per year.
However, Aston Villa are now in a strong position to seal a deal, having been showing major interest in Mingueza for months, alongside Premier League rivals West Ham United, and the report insists a move to England could be very much on the cards.
Newcastle United and a whole host of clubs from across Europe are also keen on signing the right-back, who has been lauded as a “brilliant” player by journalist Sid Lowe.
No Celta Vigo player has recorded more assists (4) than the former Barcelona man in La Liga this season, while he is also averaging 2.0 tackles per 90, which is slightly more than Matty Cash is averaging in the Premier League (1.9).
Aston Villa burst into race to sign £26m star who’s dominant in the air
The Villans are eager to bring in an “entertaining” player.
Andres Garcia has found it difficult to make a name for himself at Aston Villa, having struggled with injuries for large parts of the current campaign, so it would be a good idea to bring in more depth at right-back, and Mingueza could be a savvy addition to the squad on a free transfer.
