Forget Moore: Rohl driving Rangers deal to secure stunning Ryan Kent repeat

Glasgow Rangers are still looking to find the next star who can be as effective as Ryan Kent was when the club last won the Scottish Premiership title.

None of the players in the current Ibrox squad have scored more than six goals or provided more than four assists in the league so far this season for Danny Rohl.

Kent, though, delivered ten goals and nine assists for Steven Gerrard from the left flank during the 2020/21 Premiership season, when the Gers won the division without losing a game.

The English forward was a superstar for the Light Blues because he combined a consistent goal threat with reliable creativity, cutting in from the left to constantly make things happen in the final third.

Kent played a significant role in the team’s success in the Premiership under Gerrard, and none of the current wingers in the squad have quite hit the same heights at Ibrox, with even young Mikey Moore still only scoring six Premiership goals thus far.

The Scottish giants could address that issue in the summer, though, by dipping into the market to bolster their attack with new signings who could improve Rohl’s team.

In fact, the Light Blues are reportedly looking at an attacker who could arrive at Ibrox as a Kent repeat for the German head coach next season.

According to the Daily Record, Glasgow Rangers are exploring a deal to sign Motherwell winger Elijah Just in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Elijah Just in action for New Zealand

The report claims that Rohl is a big fan of the New Zealand international and is driving the club’s interest in a swoop for his services later this year, although no official bid has been made as of yet.

It adds that he has emerged as a key target for the Gers, as he is high up on their wishlist of summer signings, but it remains to be seen how much Motherwell would demand for him from a rival club.

How Elijah Just would be a Ryan Kent repeat for Rangers

As aforementioned, Kent was such an impactful player at Ibrox because he could deliver goals and assists on a regular basis during the title-winning season under Gerrard, providing a constant threat in front of goal.

Just’s performances for Motherwell in the Premiership so far this season suggest that he has the potential to be a Kent repeat for the Light Blues, as he also has the quality to score and assist goals in equal measure.

The 25-year-old star has delivered seven goals and seven assists in 29 appearances as a right winger in the league this term, which means that he has both scored more goals than any Rangers winger and created more goals than any of Rohl’s wide players.

The Motherwell star has shown that he can provide a constant threat to opposition defences in the Premiership, with his Kent-esque ability to score and create goals as a winger, albeit from the opposite flank to the Englishman.

Just has also been one of the most creative players in the entire division. Only Callum Slattery and Calvin Miller, who both have eight assists, have recorded more than seven assists in the league.

The New Zealand international ranks high in a host of creative and possession-based statistics among Premiership players, not even just wingers, this season, which speaks to the consistent quality that he can provide.

Just would arrive at Ibrox as a proven Premiership performer who could come through the door and hit the ground running in Glasgow, as he already knows the league and has shown that he can perform at a high level week-in-week-out.

Rangers manager Danny Rohl applauds fans after the match

The 25-year-old magician has the potential to be the exact kind of player Rohl currently lacks in the squad at Rangers, as he can be a dual attacking threat, with his scoring and creating, in the same way that Kent was for Gerrard five years ago.

That is why the Gers must push to get a deal done with Motherwell, provided that they want a fee that is within reason, to bring the winger to Ibrox in the upcoming summer transfer window.
