Man Utd primed to make formal move for “real deal” forward who Van Nistelrooy loves

Manchester United are preparing a transfer approach to sign Leicester City star Jeremy Monga, following a breakout season in the Championship.

Man United will have the opportunity to further cement themselves in the Champions League places on Monday night, when they take on rivals Leeds United, who are fighting for their lives at the opposite end of the Premier League table.

Although Leeds are involved in the relegation battle, Michael Carrick isn’t underestimating his side’s upcoming opponents, saying: “I think they are a really good team. I think Daniel [Farke] has adapted from when they were in the Championship and I was at Middlesbrough. They are a really dangerous team who have evolved in certain things, adapted in certain things.

“But I think they have had a really good season and they don’t give a lot away, especially recently. They have defended really well and it will be a tough game, a really tough game.”

Carrick has overseen a remarkable turnaround since replacing Ruben Amorim in the dugout, but Mark Goldbridge is keen for United to take the next step, and insisted INEOS should bring in Anthony Gordon this summer.

However, Man United seem to be focusing on bringing in a lesser-known winger, with a report from TEAMtalk revealing they are now primed to make a formal move for Leicester winger Monga, who is being targeted by a whole host of top clubs.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Aston Villa are also credited with an interest in the 16-year-old, alongside European giants Real Madrid, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund.

As you might expect, Leicester are determined to keep hold of the youngster, but it could be a tall order, given that they are staring down the barrel of relegation, sitting four points adrift of safety in the Championship.

It has been a terrible season for the Foxes, and the youngster has been able to force his way into the first-team plans, making 25 Championship appearances, during which time he’s picked up one goal and two assists.

Ex-Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is a big fan of the starlet too, saying during his time with the Foxes: “Jeremy is a great talent that for me is a vital part of the future of this club. We’re looking to start conversations to keep him at the club. It’s important for me that that can work out. We’re planning that.”

Lauded as the “real deal” by scout Ben Mattinson, Monga is certainly one for the future, but with United poised to return to the Champions League, it could also be important to bring in proven top-level attackers.

Moving to Old Trafford could be a very attractive proposition when summer comes around, and Carrick wants to make the most of it, with the manager now pushing for United to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

The Red Devils could also see a £87m bid accepted for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who has been terrorizing defences in the Bundesliga this season, amassing 11 goals and seven assists in 28 matches.
