“I’m married already” – Alexander Bublik gives epic reaction after turning down fan proposal in unexpected Geneva Open moment

A female fan proposed marriage to Alexander Bublik during the Kazakh’s quarterfinal outing at the 2026 Geneva Open. Bublik hilariously turned down the proposal and later, after securing progress to the semis, playfully explained his rejection of the fan’s surprise proposal.

On Thursday, May 21, Bublik faced Arthur Rinderknech of France in the last eight of Geneva. As the crafty Kazakh was preparing to serve while Rinderknech led 4-3 in the first set, the fan screamed:

    “Bublik will you marry me?”

Rejecting the proposal, the World No. 10 quipped back smiling:

    “Never!”

In his post-match interview, Alexander Bublik briefly explained that he is already married and can’t get married twice.

“Well I’m married already so i can’t get married twice I guess,” the Kazakh said.

Bublik married his wife Tatiyana back in 2021, with the couple going on to become parents to son Vasily the very next year. They tend to keep a low profile in terms of sharing updates about their relationship on social media. However, from time to time, Tatiyana has been present in the Kazakh’s box spanning various tournaments. They have also made a rare few public appearances together.

Earlier in his career, Bublik was often criticized for being an inconsistent player despite possessing a devastating array of on-court weapons. However, in recent years, the Kazakh has become a much more consistent force in contemporary men’s tennis. At a press conference earlier this year at the Australian Open, Bublik shared a candid take when asked if he had wasted his earlier years on tour, saying:

“I was like ‘Alex, you like it like this. You’re happy. You have your kid and your wife. You do whatever you want and you’re still like an actual player that’s still top 50.’ And I was happy.”

Learner Tien, the 20-year-old American prodigy who has rapidly risen up the ATP Tour’s singles rankings and is currently ranked World No. 20, stands in the way between Alexander Bublik and the 2026 Geneva Open final.

Tien and Bublik played each other for the first time recently in the third round of the Italian Open in Rome. Here, the youngster produced an impressive comeback victory over the 28-year-old Kazakh.

In Geneva so far, Tien, the No. 4 seed, has defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alex Michelsen to reach the semifinals. The winner of the last-four encounter between the American and the Kazakh will go on to face either Casper Ruud or Mariano Navone in the final.
