Top AEW champion on facing Gunther: “It feels good to be bullying another human being”

Gunther has been WWE’s top heel for the past few years. He has proven to be one of the most aggressive stars in the world of professional wrestling. With his might, he has retired names like John Cena, AJ Styles, and Goldberg in the past year. Recently, a top AEW champion talked about how it feels to wrestle a brutal opponent like The Ring General.

The AEW National Champion, Mark Davis, talked about his matches with Gunther in his career. Davis has shared the ring with the former World Heavyweight Champion multiple times in the independent scene of wrestling. They had several singles matches from 2018 to 2019 in promotions like PROGRESS, Defiant Wrestling, and Fight Club PRO.

Speaking with Sean Ross Sapp of Fighftul, Davis revealed that The Ring General takes fun in hurting his opponents during his matches. The AEW National Champion said that Gunther’s chops are aggressive, and he has struggled with taking them during their feud in the independent scene.

“Oh, Gunther is a son of a b*tch. He takes enjoyment in it. I think that’s when he’s in his like element too, which sometimes it feels good to be bullying another human being. I get it. But he’s hit me in so many ways. His chops are super powerful, but just in general f*cking absolutely everything that he does is painful,” said Davis. [H/T: Fightful]

Gunther talked about retiring WWE veteran Sheamus

Gunther and Sheamus had a grueling feud in WWE over the past few years. They delivered some amazing matches at stages like WrestleMania in their careers. Recently, The Ring General talked about having another match with The Celtic Warrior just to retire him.

Speaking on the Main Event Club podcast, the former World Heavyweight Champion said that Sheamus was his first big match on the main roster. Therefore, he wants to give The Celtic Warrior a send-off because it holds personal value for him. Besides, the Austrian star added that the Irish star has hurt him as well. Hence, he wants to take his revenge by retiring him down the line.

“Sheamus, it’s a personal matter. I want to retire him. On the main roster, Sheamus was my first big opponent, and he beat me up a lot. He made me earn it. I hope I can kick his a** on the way out,” said The Ring General.

The Ring General is heavily rumoured to retire Brock Lesnar this year at SummerSlam. It will be interesting to see if he will get to retire Sheamus somewhere in the future in the Stamford-based promotion.
