Cowboys insider reveals Dak Prescott losing weight over stress during offseason

Dak Prescott is heading into another big season with hopes of climbing over the February wall that has kept the Dallas Cowboys stuck in a decades-long deep playoff drought. Prescott mentioned the stress that he was under to deliver for the team and Jerry Jones, and it has seemingly affected his physical health.

Cowboys reporter Clarence Hill Jr. explained the exchange he had with the quarterback that led to the revelation in a post on X on Tuesday. Prescott let down his guard for a split second in the back-and-forth. Hill reported the exchange word-for-word, including what he asked and how Prescott responded.

“Asked Dak Prescott if he lost some weight, he said he hasn’t purposely,” Hill posted. “He said if he had, it was probably due to stress. ‘Since you opened that door, do you want to talk about that stress?’ (I asked.) ‘I’m closing it right back,’ he said.”

Prescott spoke about his stress publicly, which hinted at the scale of the issue. Not many leaders are open about their mental health, so for Prescott to mention it suggests he must be feeling it intensely. Some may argue it could be caused by the turmoil with Sarah Jane and the touch-and-go relationship situation.

Dak Prescott has plenty of reasons to feel stress as the quarterback of arguably the most publicized team in the NFL on top of his personal situation with Sarah Jane. After a decade of working in that environment, it can take its toll on any human. Of course, his contract situation and increasing age could be another source of stress.

According to Spotrac, Prescott is working under a contract that is set to expire after the 2028 season, which means that his performance starting now could be used against him if things don’t go according to plan. At nearly age 33 with a contract set to conclude before an age 36 season, Prescott might have reached the revelation that earning another big contract from Jones will be an uphill battle.

Tony Romo, Prescott’s predecessor, played his last full season for Jones at the age of 34. As such, with an out baked into Prescott’s contract after an age 34 season, there’s enough there to leave Prescott wondering if he is nearing the end of the line in Dallas.
