This author spoke to sources within WWE, and it appears that Gunther’s path will become clearer soon. The former World Heavyweight Champion’s repeated failures to win the Undisputed WWE Championship have left him frustrated and with unfinished business with Cody Rhodes and Nick Aldis. He blamed Aldis for his losses, and he has cost Rhodes a chance to win back the title from Sami Zayn. Now, it seems that with both of them butting heads with him, those two will be involved.
However, the biggest story for the Ring General is that a huge twist is coming to his plans after SummerSlam. WWE has big plans for the Ring General.
“His path may not be clear right now, but it will be soon. There are going to be some changes, and while he will be a champion again soon, that’s not the goal right now. Cody Rhodes, Nick Aldis are going up against him right now. There’s a big twist coming in the Gunther story, though, and it’s after SummerSlam that there are big plans for him.”
After he retired John Cena, AJ Styles, and Goldberg, and then sort of petered out with a few losses, there was backstage concern as to his status and whether his momentum was damaged. But it appears not to be worrying
“There was some worry backstage that him losing so often would hurt him, especially after he retired AJ Styles, John Cena, and Goldberg. Like some of the momentum was wasted by not immediately pushing him to the moon. But now, it’s not too worrying.”
More will be known by next week, but after SummerSlam, it appears that things will change for the Ring General.
