Chiefs rookie Cyrus Allen’s injury threatens to derail potential 2026 breakout

Kansas City Chiefs rookie wideout Cyrus Allen‘s breakout training camp may be over almost as fast as it began.

On Saturday, the promising 2026 fifth-rounder suffered a lower leg injury after a strong start to Chiefs training camp. ESPN Chiefs reporter Nate Taylor observed Allen “shaking his head and putting his jersey over his face” while being carted off the practice field following a special teams rep.

Earlier in the day, Taylor wrote about Allen’s strong first impression, which included being on the receiving end of a pass from Patrick Mahomes on a fade route along the sideline.

“Allen showed the body control to turn away from [cornerback Nohl] Williams and catch the ball away from his body while saying in bounds,” Taylor wrote.

With suspect depth at wide receiver, Allen had a chance to quickly rise the depth chart with a continued strong summer. His injury threatens to derail those lofty ambitions.
