CM Punk had a backstage interview, where he was asked about Cody Rhodes, his SummerSlam 2026 opponent. However, he was confronted by a current Champion, who he verbally humiliated.
CM Punk has a lot on his plate. Even if he successfully defeats Cody Rhodes on Saturday Night to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship, he will know who his next opponent is by Sunday when Finn Balor takes on Sami Zayn. Punk took Sami’s title away, which has led to quite a bit of frustration from him. And earlier this year, Punk had a feud with Finn Balor, where they had a great couple of matches. However, Punk’s immediate focus is Cody Rhodes, who he will be facing just one night after SmackDown. They had a lot of tensions recently, especially in a live event, where Cody “accidentally” hit Punk in the face after their victorious effort.
Thanks for the submission!
As CM Punk was talking about Cody Rhodes, he was confronted by United States Champion Trick Williams, who said that he would eventually come for Punk. The WWE Champion admitted he was disappointed that Trick Williams didn’t win the qualifying Fatal-4-Way match last week as he is craving new faces to compete against. He told Trick that when he does win a #1 contenders match, and when he does finally get into that “rare air” of a main eventer, he will be whooped by Punk himself. This was a humiliating moment for the US Champion, who was humbled and silenced.
Right after that, Williams went out for his segment with Baron Corbin, who he faces at SummerSlam on Saturday. Corbin showed a lot of restraint and appeared to be far more mature than the previous version of him that we had seen – especially in the 2010s.
Things are looking promising for Williams and he is hardly seven months into his main roster run.
