    WWE Official breaks silence after being attacked by Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam

    Cody Rhodes came up short at SummerSlam when he took on CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

    The former champion was pushing to take back his title, but after accidentally hitting referee Charles Robinson, Randy Orton made his return and attacked Rhodes, costing him the match.

    Punk was then able to deliver a final GTS to win the match and retain his title. Robinson has since taken to social media to claim he was in the wrong place at the wrong time when Punk ducked, and Rhodes kicked him in the face.

    “Once again wrong place at the wrong time and this time during @americannightmarecody and @cmpunk match during @wwe #summerslam Day 1 match. #wrestling #minneapolis @usbankstadium” he wrote.

    It seems that Charles needed to be taken out in order for Randy Orton to interfere in the match and pick up where he left off with Cody Rhodes.

    Randy Orton hasn’t been seen since WrestleMania, when he lost to Cody Rhodes and turned on Pat McAfee. While there was talk about his back being injured, Orton claimed that he was resting before returning to win his 15th World Championship.

    It seems that The Viper was waiting and allowing Cody Rhodes to get himself into a position where he was looking to win the title in the same way Orton was at WrestleMania, so that he could hand him the same heartbreak.

    Orton and Rhodes have a detailed history in WWE, and this was only touched on slightly heading into WrestleMania, so it will be interesting to see how this is angled for them without Pat McAfee as a part of the story.

    Orton has had some time on the sidelines to allow him to prepare for his return and revenge on Rhodes, who has remained a full-time star over the past three months. Rhodes could now be seen as a stepping stone for Orton, who is back for his 15th World Championship before he decides to retire from the wrestling business.
