Just when it looked like the MLB trade deadline was over, the San Diego Padres and Detroit Tigers agreed to a buzzer-beater trade that may greatly benefit the Padres’ rotation for the remainder of this season.
Casey Mize is headed out west
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the two sides agreed on a trade to send right-hander Casey Mize from the Tigers to the Padres.
Mize was expected to be moved ahead of the deadline, and it took right until the last minute for a deal to be agreed upon.
Along with Mize, San Diego also acquired utilityman Gage Workman in the deal. In return, Detroit received Kash Mayfield (SD No. 2 prospect) and left-handed pitching prospect Jackson Wolf.
