The National Women’s Soccer League is constantly seeing players switch teams, especially since the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement widened trade windows. The CBA has also given players more autonomy over where they end up, banning trades without player consent. As a result, we’ve also seen an uptick in players requesting a change.
What are some moves that worked out particularly well in the 2026 season?
Nichelle Prince – Boston Legacy
After a 2023 season plagued by injury, Canadian forward Nichelle Prince was traded to the Kansas City Current in early 2024. Despite winning the NWSL Shield and the only ever Summer Cup trophy with her new club, Prince struggled to get minutes on such a stacked team, starting only 16 of 55 possible games across her two seasons there.
Ahead of the 2026 season, Prince was traded to expansion side Boston Legacy FC, where she has already started in 16 of the club’s first 17 matches. This move seems to be exactly what she’s needed, as she leads the club in assists (3) and is third in goal contributions overall (5: Traoré and Gutierres lead with six each).
She’s established herself as a key part of the attack, creating 23 chances, only one fewer than she managed in her two seasons with the Current. Her 4.17 expected assists are already a career high only halfway through the season.
