Ole Miss Rebels senior quarterback Trinidad Chambliss proved his success wasn’t solely because of Lane Kiffin on Sunday night in Nashville.
Kiffin’s now the head coach of the LSU Tigers after a messy exit from Ole Miss. Pete Golding replaced him. Kiffin’s departure raised questions about whether Chambliss would remain one of the most exciting players in college football. After shining against the Louisville Cardinals in the Music City Kickoff at Nissan Stadium, it’s apparent he still is.
Trinidad Chambliss passes big Lane Kiffin test against Louisville
After engineering a clutch drive in last season’s 39-34 College Football Playoff victory over the Georgia Bulldogs, Chambliss delivered again in a 41-38 win over No. 24 Louisville (0-1). Late in the fourth quarter, he piloted an eight-play, 40-yard drive, setting up senior kicker Lucas Carneiro’s game-winning 48-yard field goal. That punctuated a spectacular performance for the QB, who had 396 yards (336 passing, 60 rushing) and four TDs (three passing, one rushing).
“[Trinidad Chambliss] can keep Ole Miss in every game even without Lane Kiffin,” ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky, a former NFL QB, said Monday on “Get Up.” “In the second half, it was absolute fireworks.”
