Manchester United could sign Alejandro Balde from Barcelona for £34 million

Following a poor start to the season, Manchester United may be forced to invest in their squad as early as in the January transfer window, and the left back position might be their top priority with no signing made over the summer to fill the role.

Spanish source Fichajes has reported that Barcelona full back Alejandro Balde remains firmly within Manchester United’s list of targets ahead of 2027, with the Blaugrana prepared to sell him for £34 million next year.

Hansi Flick has opted in favour of Joao Cancelo and Xavi Espart at left back for Barca so far this season, and though Balde stayed at Camp Nou to fight for his place, his manager’s inclination towards other players could force him out of the club.

Only 22 years of age, the La Masia graduate possesses top decision-making, physical attributes and offensive capabilities, so Man United will be significantly bolstered by his purchase as they look to acquire a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw.

Balde move in January 2027 a strong possibility

Manchester United cannot continue much longer with Luke Shaw as their left back after the former Southampton star has put in underwhelming performances very often in the recent past, while not having a capable back-up either.

With summer target Lewis Hall committing to a contract extension at Newcastle United as well, the Red Devils have very few options they could consider bringing in at left back and therefore, they may acquire a player in January rather than wait till summer.

Alejandro Balde’s services might be in heavy demand next summer as numerous clubs will look to rebuild then, so the winter promises to be a good time to beat competition and lure him away from Barcelona.

Barca could also be ready for his sale as the Spaniard is not a key member of Hansi Flick’s setup at the moment, so if the Red Devils decide to match his asking price, the transfer might fall in place very quickly.
