Every game that Cody Gakpo could miss for Liverpool after injury blow

It’s a big run of fixtures for Liverpool after the international break. From the off, they’re set to welcome Manchester City just weeks after David Ornstein dropped the bombshell news of their guilty verdict. An angry, robbed Anfield awaits Enzo Maresca’s men.

The challenges do not stop there for the Reds, though. They’ve then got a trip to face LASK in the Champions League, which they will be expected to ease through, and then a trip to Brentford – one of the toughest away games in the Premier League right now.

More midweek action takes place after that. Villarreal travel to Anfield and then so do Brighton in what will be another banana skin of a game for Andoni Iraola, who will have the chance to truly establish himself in the Liverpool dugout.

With five games in the space of two weeks, the last thing Liverpool need in the current international break are injury woes. With Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo already returning to Merseyside from their international camps, however, it could be bad news for Iraola.

The Spaniard has been left sweating over the extent of Isak’s injury following the Swede’s resurgent form in recent weeks, whilst one journalist has already shared some bad news on Gakpo.

After returning to Liverpool with an ankle injury sustained in the Netherlands’ 2-1 victory over Serbia, Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink has claimed that Gakpo is set to miss several weeks of action.

It’s a major blow for Liverpool if that is the case, given just how impressive the forward has been at the start of the season. Since seeing a move to Manchester City break down, the Dutchman has arguably been Iraola’s best attacker with two goals and four assists to his name.

Set for a period on the sidelines, Gakpo is likely to miss a number of important games – including when Liverpool square off against Man City after the break.

Iraola will be desperate to have Gakpo back for games against Chelsea and Arsenal at Anfield, especially the latter in the Premier League. Failing that, the manager must hope to see Bradley Barcola find his best form and Victor Munoz turn his impressive start into more goal involvements.

With Gakpo already sidelined, Liverpool must now hope to receive some better news regarding Isak’s injury ahead of a hectic period of fixtures.
