Michael Jordan has not named Caitlin Clark his favorite WNBA player. The claims come from social media posts that spread the news without proper sources to back them up.
On Tuesday, a fan claimed that Jordan had announced the Fever guard as his favorite player in women’s basketball.
“Michael Jordan does not speak a lot in public. But he said Caitlin Clark is his favorite WNBA player. The GOAT recognizes her, so everyone can S**U now pls lol,” he claimed.
In a follow-up tweet in the comments section, he attached a screenshot of a Google search instead of citing direct sources to a Jordan quote.
The post has garnered over 57,000 impressions and fooled many fans. One fan asked X’s in-built assistant, Grok, to verify the claim, and it came back negative.
Clark has drawn comparisons to Jordan at multiple points in her career. In August, Fox Sports commentator Colin Cowherd compared the Fever guard’s mindset to the Bulls legend.
“She’s Steph Curry (in playing style), but with kind of a Michael Jordan mindset,” he said. “All business, all basketball, has no opinion or comment on the controversies.”
In September, while speaking to Clark’s teammate, Sophie Cunningham, on his “The Herd” podcast, Cowherd revealed his opinion of Clark’s personality.
“I look at her and I think she’s got Jordan’s ascension, Curry’s game, and Larry Bird’s personality,” he said.
Clark heads into the offseason after a first-round exit in the playoffs at the hands of the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces. She was among the best players this season, averaging 22.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game on 44.6% shooting.
Linda Cohn slams Caitlin Clark critics with a Michael Jordan comparison after first-round exit
Former ESPN sportscaster Linda Cohn clapped back at Caitlin Clark’s critics by comparing the Fever star to Michael Jordan. On Sunday’s episode of the “Linda Cohn Show” on YouTube, the former sportscaster slammed an NBC News article questioning Clark’s career after a first-round playoff exit.
“This point that NBC News has made by this stupid post,” she said. (Timestamp: 13:46) “Can I remind NBC News, who is probably not locked into the WNBA every day of this season and the postseason.”
“Michael Jordan, you might have heard of him. He played, I believe, over 500 games before winning his first championship. So, can we lay off the ‘What’s wrong with her,’ and ‘She’s not great until she wins her first championship’ narrative?”
Jordan played over 500 games, including playoffs, before the 1991 playoffs, where he won his first championship after defeating the Lakers 4-1 in the Finals. At the end of her third season, Clark had played 98 games, including playoff appearances.
