Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders had the chance to win Sunday’s game against the New York Giants in overtime. However, despite being in field goal range, Dan Quinn decided to go for it. The quarterback ran with the ball but ended up being tackled.
With Washington out of timeouts, the game ended in a 27-27 tie. After the game, former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin shared a scathing criticism of Daniels’ play and questioned the botched overtime plays from both teams.
Thanks for the submission!
“I’d describe it as disgusting,” Tomlin said. “Division wins are too precious in the National Football League. I was disgusted by the Skattebo fumble. I threw up in my mouth a little bit at the end of the game.

“It’s tough, we’ll never know what happened. The head coach said what he was supposed to say, the quarterback said what he was supposed to say. It’s just tough. Division wins are very precious, and they had one in their hands and they let it slip away.”

Jayden Daniels scored his second rushing touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter to give the Commanders a 27-13 lead. However, Jameis Winston kept the Giants in the game and forced overtime after consecutive passing touchdowns to Isaiah Likely and Malik Nabers.
The Giants had a chance to kick a field goal in the third possession of overtime. But coach John Harbaugh decided to run the ball after Dominic Zvada had already missed three field goals. Daron Payne then knocked the ball from Cam Skattebo’s hand, and the Commanders defensive tackle Shy Tuttle recovered the ball.
On a second-and-eight play on the Giants’ 24-yard line, the Commanders could have attempted a field goal. But Jayden Daniels ended up being tackled as the clock ran out. He finished the game completing 17-of-25 passes for 199 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Jayden Daniels shares his thoughts on the Commanders’ final possession play in overtime
In the postgame press conference, Jayden Daniels admitted that they needed to do a better job of managing the clock. He also addressed the final play, where the clock ran out after he was tackled on the possession.
“You got to do better. We all got to be better situationally. Football starts with me. Everybody will say the same thing. But we just got to be better in situational football,” Daniels said.
“We got to stop the clock. We got to know O-zone situation. We got to relay that as an offense. It starts from everybody, top down. But ultimately, it’s on me.”
Daniels made his return on Sunday after missing the last two games while rehabilitating from a dislocated elbow.
The Commanders are next scheduled to face the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 19.
