Jennifer Lopez has been advised to dial down her social media presence and focus more on letting her talent shine amid her high-profile split from Ben Affleck. The couple, who have been in the public eye for months due to marital issues, is now heading toward divorce, and Lopez is expected to shift her attention back to her career.
Following the cancellation of her “This Is Me… Live” tour and the underperformance of her latest album, Lopez finds herself at a pivotal point in her career. She canceled her summer tour to spend time with her family as rumors about her relationship with Affleck intensified. However, she hasn’t been very active in the music scene since then, though she is reportedly premiering a new movie soon.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck likely divorce because of Diddy raids
Steve Honig, a PR expert and founder of The Honig Company, suggests that Lopez should minimize her personal exposure and maximize her professional one. “Lopez needs to immerse herself in her work and let her talent – of which there is ample – speak for itself,” Honig told Fox News. He believes that Lopez needs to demonstrate that she is “more than a tabloid headline” and re-establish herself as a “timeless performer.”
Controlling the narrative
Another PR expert, Doug Eldridge, founder of Achilles PR, argues that Lopez needs to stay in the spotlight to control her own narrative, especially in the wake of her divorce. Eldridge warns that pulling back from social media could be risky. “Never leave a story for someone else to tell, it will almost never be positive,” he advises. According to him, social media is a crucial tool for managing public perception, especially during a high-profile divorce.
Eldridge acknowledges that while stepping out of the spotlight might seem tempting, it’s a “risky proposition” given the unclear details surrounding Lopez’s pending divorce. However, he also notes that the split could benefit Lopez if she plays her cards right. Eldridge points out that Lopez has successfully reinvented herself throughout her career without losing her core fanbase, and with the right timing, she could emerge even stronger.
Lopez has also received career advice from Jon Peters, a former producer who worked with her on the 1995 film Money Train. Peters suggested that Lopez could revitalize her career by moving to Nashville and releasing a country album. He even offered to fund the project, saying it would be a “monster” hit. Whether Lopez takes this unconventional advice remains to be seen, but it’s clear she has several options on the table as she navigates this challenging period.
