    RCB-W vs DEL-W: Watch – Meg Lanning Gets Castled By Heather Knight In WPL 2023

    The Australian captain Meg Lanning played a brilliant knock during the match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) women and Delhi Capitals (DC) women in the second match of the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, March 5.

    Smriti Mandhana won the toss and opted to field first in the first day game of the tournament. RCB picked Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Sophie Devine, and Heather Knight as their four overseas players, while Meg Lanning, Marizanne Kapp, Alice Capsey, and Jess Jonassen were included in DC’s playing XI.

    After being asked to bat first, Delhi openers Shafali and Lanning provided a flying start, scoring 57 runs inside the powerplay. Meg Lanning smashed all bowlers around the park and reached fifty in just 30 balls. The DC skipper scored 72 runs off 43 balls, including 14 boundaries, before being dismissed by Heather Knight in the 15th over of the innings.

    Heather Knight broke the opening partnership of 162 runs in just 14.3 overs by dismissing Lanning. Knight bowled the batter as she came down to track to flick towards the leg side, but the ball dipped on her and crashed into the middle and leg stump. The right-handed batter had the chance to score a century in the mega-tournament.

    Earlier, the 30-year-old was named captain of the Delhi Capitals after leading the Australia team to their record sixth T20 World Cup title. She is the only player to captain a side in 100 or more matches in the shorter format. She represented Australia in 132 T20Is, scoring 3405 runs with two centuries and 15 half-centuries at an average of 36.61 and strike rate of 116.37.
