The Alcalde Agustín San José Park in Vicálvaro will host on the upcoming November 8 a new edition of the Cross Country Marathon Trophy. The move from Parque de la Cruces to the Vicálvaro neighborhood is the main novelty of an edition that, once again, will feature the Madrid Absolute Club Championship in Cross Country. The change is due to a series of works in the ‘carabanchelero’ green space that complicate organizational tasks.

A two-kilometer circuit and a one-kilometer circuit will underpin the development of the various tests for the senior, under-23 and under-18 categories, for both men and women. The children’s races will take place on shorter courses, ranging from 350 to 750 meters, depending on the case.

The morning program of the Marathon Trophy is completed with the usual offering of a popular cross, limited to 500 participants, which will be run on a 6-kilometer course. This event will be included in the Circuito de Carreras de Barrio de Madrid, with prizes for the first three and a gift for all participants. Within the Popular Cross there would also be a category for people with disabilities, who will participate over this distance and in this event.

The 2026 edition will not be the first relocation experienced by the Marathon Trophy in a long history that began in 1960. In its origins, the Marathon Trophy was contested in Madrid’s Casa de Campo, moving to the Parque de Las Cruces at the end of the 20th century. In this journey, some editions have been held on the Jarama circuit or in Arganda del Rey.

The Marathon Trophy, which reaches 67 editions held, is one of Madrid’s most established sporting events and will once again honor the figure of Javier Manzano, long associated with organizing races from the Marathon Sports Association. The poster for the 2026 edition is led by one of the great athletes in the recent history of the Marathon Sports Association, national marathon champion in 2018 among many other achievements, and more than two decades as a club member: the Madrid-born Clara Simal.
