Liverpool plot swoop to sign Chelsea & Arsenal target Scott

Liverpool are reportedly battling with Arsenal and Chelsea over a deal to sign AFC Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, as per BBC Sport.

After moving to Vitality Stadium from Bristol City in 2023, the 23-year-old initially took time to adapt to the Premier League’s physicality before showing glimpses of his qualities last term.

In 39 appearances across all competitions, Scott made five goal contributions. Moreover, he helped his side qualify for the Europa League by finishing sixth in the Premier League.

The youngster has even enjoyed a promising start this season, making two goal contributions in six appearances in all tournaments. After being impressed by his recent eye-catching performances, Thomas Tuchel has selected him in the England squad for this September/October international fixtures.

Now, BBC Sport report that although Scott’s existing deal is set to run until 2028, Bournemouth don’t want to part ways with him. However, the midfielder is keen on taking the next step in his career and has already rejected a few contract proposals.

Chelsea wanted to reinforce the midfield department by purchasing Scott this summer and launched a formal £64m bid. But the Cherries rejected the offer; still, the Blues remain keen on him.

On the other hand, Liverpool are also interested in him, and Andoni Iraola knows the player very well, having previously worked together at Vitality Stadium.

The report further state that Arsenal hold an interest in him, while Manchester City and Manchester United previously identified him as a key target.

However, having revamped the engine room this summer, the Citizens and the Red Devils are unlikely to make a move for the Englishman, valued at around £43m by Transfermarkt, next year.

Despite selling Enzo Fernandez on deadline day, Chelsea failed to buy a new midfielder. On the other hand, Liverpool didn’t reinforce the engine room, despite letting Curtis Jones join Inter Milan this summer.

Therefore, Liverpool and Chelsea are considering purchasing a new midfielder next year. However, Arsenal bolstered the midfield by signing Bruno Guimaraes in the recently concluded summer window.

Still, it appears Mikel Arteta wants to add further depth to this position. Scott is a Premier League-proven player and hasn’t reached his prime yet. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool should any of those clubs purchase him.
