To flip or not to flip? That is the question – Equalizer Soccer

Jeff Kassouf, founder and owner of Equalizer, reported for ESPN last week that NWSL owners are set to vote on flipping the league calendar to run from late summer to spring. This will be the second vote on the issue. The first one obviously failed.

Here are 11 thoughts on the idea, some for and some against.  Let’s dig in.

    I. Lining up the calendar makes sense

The best argument for making the flip is that it would line up the NWSL with most of the major leagues around the world. And that matters more than ever with the full globalization of the women’s game, in terms of both player movement and the rise of previously dormant leagues in Europe. It would mean the end — or the vast reduction — of situations like Lindsey Heaps signing with Denver but having to play out her contract in France first. Players in NWSL and all of the major European leagues would be out of season, and out of contract, at the same time.
