As first reported by Fox Sports Australia, the move was confirmed by the club, with the two-time NBL champion locked in for the 2026–27 season.
Vasiljevic and Adelaide agreed to a mutual release last week, a surprise development that quickly drew league-wide interest. The Breakers moved decisively, addressing a clear need after a below-par perimeter shooting season.
He brings more than just scoring. Vasiljevic adds composure, big-game experience and a strong international resumé, having represented the Australian Boomers in 2023 and again in 2025 during the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers, where he averaged 12.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
In a statement, the Breakers’ President of Basketball Operations Dillon Boucher said Vasiljevic’s game fits exactly with where the club is heading.
“DJ is a proven winner and a player who thrives under pressure, in big moments.” he said
“His ability to stretch the floor and his leadership perfectly align with the style of play we have established here in Auckland.”
Vasiljevic also spoke about his excitement to join the club’s “whānau”.
“I am incredibly excited to join the Breakers and become part of the whānau. This club has a prestigious history and with a clear vision for the future that I want to be a part of.”
The signing comes off the back of the Breakers re-signing emerging forward Sam Mennenga on a two-year deal. Alongside Parker Jackson-Cartwright and the existing core, there’s a growing belief the club is building into a genuine contender, with Marc Mitchell, Club Chairman and Owner, stating that the team is now becoming a destination for some of the leagues best talent.
“Securing a marquee player of DJ’s calibre demonstrates that the Breakers are a premier destination for the best talent in the league,” he said.
“We know our fans will embrace him as one of our own as we strive to compete for a Championship.”
