Trophy-laden player ready to join Leeds once they confirm Premier League survival

Leeds United have been given a major summer transfer boost, but it hinges on them confirming Premier League survival before a move materialises.

The relegation battle is entering its final stretch, and for Leeds the picture is far clearer than it was just a few weeks ago.

After spending much of the season looking over their shoulder, Leeds have given themselves breathing room at the right time.

Heading into the last handful of Premier League games, they sit far outside the bottom three and, crucially, have opened up a gap that puts survival within touching distance.

Earlier in the spring, they were hovering dangerously close to trouble, sitting around 15th with only a small cushion between themselves and the drop zone.

Now, with a six-point advantage and only a few games left, one more positive result could effectively seal their Premier League status.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke looks dejected after the match

The German is about to make his feelings clear.

That shift in position has eased some of the tension around Elland Road.

Results have not always been perfect, but they have been good enough to keep Leeds in control of their own destiny, with Daniel Farke‘s side unbeaten in their last five top flight matches.

At the same time, planning for next season is already underway, and one name continues to surface.

Hidemasa Morita ready to join Leeds once survival is confirmed

Hidemasa Morita is once again on Leeds’ radar, following a well-documented attempt to sign the Japan international last summer.

As per The Mail’s Simon Jones, Morita is now ready to commit to Leeds once survival is mathematically confirmed.

The midfielder had interest from the club last year but opted to stay put.

This time, the situation has changed with his deal expiring at the end of 2025/2026, and a summer switch is looking increasingly realistic, with other reports saying Leeds are in pole position for Morita.

Morita, now 30, has been a consistent performer for Sporting CP this season.

Operating primarily as a defensive midfielder, he has featured regularly across all competitions, making 46 appearances while contributing one goal and five assists.

Those numbers only tell part of the story. His real value lies in his control of tempo, positioning, and ability to break up opposition play.

Across his career, Morita has built a reputation as a reliable and disciplined midfielder.

Before moving to Portugal, he impressed in Japan with Kawasaki Frontale, where he won multiple domestic honours.

Since joining Sporting, he has added further success, including two Primeira Liga titles — taking his overall trophy haul to eight major honours across both Japan and Europe.

That winning background is a big part of his appeal.

Leeds are not just looking for talent, but for players who understand how to compete and manage pressure situations. Morita fits that profile.

He has played in title-winning sides, experienced European football, and represented his country 40 times on the international stage.

Tactically, he could offer something Leeds have lacked at times this season, and provide Farke with a solid alternative to captain Ethan Ampadu.

With his contract running down, Morita will be available on a free transfer, making him a low-risk option with proven quality. In a market where fees continue to rise, that kind of opportunity is difficult to ignore.

For Leeds, though, everything still hinges on survival being confirmed.

Luckily for Farke, that’s actually looking pretty likely.
