Newcastle United have now launched contact to sign Jarrod Bowen from West Ham United this summer, as they set their sights on attacking upgrades.
The Magpies’ plan is clear this summer. They need attacking reinforcements and they must finally welcome an adequate replacement for Alexander Isak. It’s the job that was handed to Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, but both have since been stripped of that role with the former even pushed to central midfield.
Several potential options have emerged as a result, including Sporting CP’s Luis Suarez. The namesake of a Barcelona legend, Suarez knows how to find the back of the net in similar fashion and is reportedly on the radar of those at St James’ Park.

The Magpies are in pole position…
He’s not the only name on it, however. According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have launched contact to sign Bowen this summer. The West Ham captain is facing the prospect of adding a relegation to his CV now that the Hammers are two points adrift of safety with just two games left to play.
If West Ham are relegated, then the forward’s price tag will likely drop. In the event that the London club survive, though, he could cost as much as £60m this summer – handing Newcastle plenty to think about.
In terms of upgrades, Bowen would be an instant improvement on Woltemade and Wissa this summer. There would be natural concerns over the fact that he’s already 29 years old and doesn’t have a whole career ahead of him, but Newcastle would still benefit from what he has left to give.
£60m Bowen would be instant upgrade on Wissa
The price may seem steep if West Ham survive this season, but Bowen has proved in London that he can quickly become invaluable. The versatile forward has scored 64 Premier League goals during his time in the top division, eight of which have come in the current campaign. No matter the end result, he’s certainly done his part.
The club captain has certainly earned impressive praise during his time at the London Stadium too, with former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp saying: “Bowen, what a player he became, unbelievable. We saw him as well at Hull and he was really good that time, but I’m not sure a lot of people expected this jump. Unbelievable player.”

It’s hard to argue with Klopp’s verdict when looking at the numbers. Bowen has dragged West Ham through disappointing lows and towards incredible, European highs.
Now, he could provide Newcastle with the ultimate solution to their attacking problems and an instant upgrade on Wissa this summer.
