Why is Mitchell Marsh not playing today’s LSG vs PBKS IPL 2026 match?

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opening batter Mitchell Marsh is not a part of the playing XI for the team’s final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). The crucial match in the business end of the playoffs is scheduled to take place at the Ekana Stadium, on Saturday, May 23.

The in-form Australian player has reportedly left the squad to link up with the national team, who will be playing a three-match ODI series against Pakistan, from May 30 onwards. Mitchell Marsh will be leading the team, with regular ODI captain Pat Cummins not included in the 15-man squad. The right-arm pacer is also tied up with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after their qualification for the playoffs.

Although the Australian squad also included Marsh’s LSG teammate Josh Inglis, the destructive batter is expected to join the national squad after the fixture against his former franchise.

LSG captain Rishabh Pant confirmed that Mitchell Marsh is not a part of the playing XI during the toss.

“Two changes for us, Arjun (Tendulkar) and Arshin Kulkarni are in, because Mitchell Marsh has gone home,” he said after being putting into bat first.

Mitchell Marsh marks the fourth overseas player to leave the squad, with the campaign still going on. Earlier, the South Africa trio of Matthew Breetzke, Anrich Nortje, and Aiden Markram, gradually became unavailable for the franchise.

Mitchell Marsh had a stellar individual campaign for LSG in IPL 2026

The overseas star had the massive responsibility of replicating his stellar individual campaign from last year, and managed to do so, despite the lack of support by other batters. After his impressive 627-run tally at an average of 48.23 and a strike rate of 163.71 in 2025, he was able to back it up with 563 runs at an average of 43.31 and a strike rate of 163.19 this season.

Mitchell Marsh had a slow start to the IPL 2026 campaign, scoring only 75 runs in his first four innings. However, he managed to be one of the most in-form players in the business end of the league stage, smashing a hundred and two nineties across his last four appearances.
