Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson are battling for the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback role. Rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion, who is set to be a primary weapon for whoever leads the offense in 2026, opened up about the QB battle in Cleveland.
“It’s been going amazing,” Concepcion said. “Both of those guys are amazing people, amazing teammates, amazing quarterbacks. Everybody is fighting for a spot on the roster. It’s going to be intriguing, you know, who comes away with it.”

Throughout the spring, Watson and Sanders split first-team 11-on-11 reps down the middle. During minicamp, the coaching staff gave each quarterback one full day of first-team work before splitting the load on the final day.

Watson is fighting to reclaim his starting role after missing the entire 2025 season due to injury. Sanders started 7 games last season and secured a 3-4 record while throwing 56.6% completions for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
The Browns currently carry a highly crowded room that includes Watson, Sanders, 2025 third-round pick Dillon Gabriel, and rookie Taylen Green. Because they are highly unlikely to carry four quarterbacks into the regular season, trade speculation surrounding Sanders has exploded.
Many insiders believe that if Watson wins the starting job outright in camp, the Browns might start listening to calls regarding Sanders’ availability.
Browns insider drops major update on Shedeur Sanders trade rumors
Trade speculation surrounding Shedeur Sanders has continued to grow, but Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot believes Cleveland isn’t looking to move the rookie just yet. She shared some insights on the situation while speaking on “92.3 The Fan” on Thursday.
“The Browns are pretty committed to their two-way quarterback competition between Shedeur and Deshaun,” Cabot said. “Camp will open up that way, and we’ll see how that plays out.
“Now, when you fast forward to August 30th, and it comes time to shape your roster and make those cutdowns, at that point, they will listen to offers for any quarterbacks that aren’t starting. I do think that there is a world in which if Deshaun wins the job, they probably would at least take a phone call for Shedeur.“
Cleveland currently has four quarterbacks on its roster, including Dillon Gabriel, who started six games before Sanders took over last season.
