Drew Allar provides hope for Steelers’ future with impressive preseason performance

The Pittsburgh Steelers won their preseason opener, beating the Green Bay Packers to the tune of 28-9 on Thursday night. But the result and convincing final score isn’t what Steelers fans are talking about in the aftermath of the game.

Rookie quarterback Drew Allar performed at such a level that made him stand out in comparison to his teammates who also took snaps under center and triggered excitement for even the most pessimistic fan.

Drew Allar showed off his total package in NFL preseason debut

Allar threw the most passes of any Steelers quarterback, completing 10-of-13 attempts. He finished the night with 153 yards, three total touchdowns — two through the air and one on the ground, no turnovers and a rating of 154.8.

The Penn State product’s overall numbers exceeded both Mason Rudolph and Will Howard’s play, even though they both enjoyed solid showings themselves.

However, it was Allar’s poise, flashes of athleticism and ability to read his receivers perfectly, including connecting with fellow rookie Kaden Wetjen for a 74-yarder, that told the true story of his NFL debut.
