In No More Room in Hell 2, the zombie infection is one of the most dangerous threats a player can face. Whenever you take damage from the undead, get grappled while your stamina is depleted, or inhale toxic gas clouds from special corpses, there is a serious risk of contracting the virus.
Once infected, an invisible countdown begins that will end your character’s life and trigger permadeath unless you manage it quickly.
The infection stages in No More Room in Hell 2 come in layers. There are different stages with distinct changes to your players features and the clock starts ticking as soon as the first symptoms appear. This article will help you understand the stages and give you the ways to cure them before things go south.
Infection stages in No More Room in Hell 2

The infection unfolds in progressive phases, typically giving you about five minutes before full reanimation takes hold. There are three stages of the infection and they are as follows:
- Incubation
- Active onset
- Terminal
The incubation stage begins the moment the virus quietly enters your bloodstream. The earliest signs are subtle as your character will begin coughing occasionally, and light visual blurring or a pale vignette will appear around the edges of the screen.
As the condition advances into the active onset stage, the physical toll becomes obvious. Coughing fits become louder and more frequent, audio becomes muffled or distorted, and your character’s voice sounds strained over voice chat. Your vision begins warping, and auditory hallucinations start bleeding into the background noise.
During the terminal stage, the screen is overtaken by pulsing red veins and heavy visual distortion. At this point, your stamina is heavily penalized, and reanimation is imminent. When time runs out, your character collapses, dies, and immediately turns into an aggressive sprinting zombie that will attack your teammates.
How to cure infections in No More Room in Hell 2

The only permanent cure found in the field is the Gene Therapy device. This rare, high-tier medical tool looks like a specialized injector. To use it, you must activate the device to draw and calibrate a sample to your bloodline.
After a short processing period, you administer the injection a second time to eradicate the virus completely and gain temporary immunity against re-infection for the remainder of the match.
Phalanx pills are far more common than Gene Therapy devices and serve as a temporary lifeline. Swallowing a dose does not cure the infection, but it resets your infection timer back to the beginning.
Because pill bottles have limited charges, the most efficient strategy is to wait until your infection enters its later, veiny stage before taking a pill, maximizing the total time you buy for your team.
If you cannot find medical supplies, rushing the final objective and escaping the map via the extraction chopper or vehicle will also save your character. Successfully leaving the zone clears active status penalties between runs.
When death is inevitable, you have run out of pills, and no cure is nearby, you can use the game’s self-sacrifice feature. Holding a loaded firearm and pressing the dedicated sacrifice key allows you to end your responder’s life on your own terms, preventing your body from reanimating as a dangerous runner that could wipe out your squad.
