Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is back on the ice for the first time since undergoing knee surgery in March.
Matthews took part in the inaugural Sun Devil Hockey Pro Camp in Arizona on Tuesday, with the Leafs captain skating with a group of other NHLers. It is the first public look at the Leafs star on skates since he suffered a Grade 3 MCL tear and quadriceps contusion in March.

Auston Matthews, who has spent the offseason recovering and working with specialists, got injured during a regular-season game between the Maple Leafs and Ducks back in March after a brutal knee-on-knee collision with Radko Gudas.
Matthews was helped off the ice and later ruled out for the rest of the 2025-26 season. Gudas, meanwhile, was hit with a five-game suspension for the play.
Sid Seixeiro criticizes sports chiropractor for revealing sensitive injury news about Auston Matthews

Sports chiropractor Dr. Shawn Robek, known for treating back pain, recently linked up with Matthews in Arizona.
Following that, Robek joined TSN’s First Up interview, where he revealed that a lower-back problem was not the issue for the Leafs captain this year, raising concerns about a different condition Matthews is dealing with.
In response to Robek’s update on Matthews, the Sid Seixeiro Show blasted the chiropractor for revealing sensitive injury news:
“There’s a chiropractor in Arizona who just posted a photo on Instagram of him and Auston Matthews. I’m listening to First Up on TSN radio, and I believe it was Aaron Korolnek in with Mike De Stefano today,” said Sid.
He added:
“I thought he was joking when Aaron Korolnek first said this on air, but Korolnek said, coming up at 9 a.m. Eastern, we’re going to talk via phone with Dr. Shawn Robek, Auston Matthews’ chiropractor, and I went, ‘He’s not serious. What doctor does interviews in the city about, of all teams, the Leafs?”
Now that Matthews has started training on the ice, he’s expected to be fully fit for the 2026-27 season. Matthews’ season was cut short to just 60 games, in which he managed to accumulate 53 points, including 27 goals and 26 assists
