Alexander Bublik is the No. 15 seed in the men’s singles main draw of the 2026 US Open, and the crafty Kazakh has been drawn to face an unseeded home hope in J.J. Wolf.

Bublik, currently ranked World No. 16, enters the year’s last major without having played a competitive tournament since his runner-up finish in Kitzbuhel in July. However, instead of any injury, it was his decision to prioritize spending time with his family to celebrate his son’s birthday in August that led to his absence in Washington, Montreal and Cincinnati. Bublik also wanted to rest and recover in time for New York without exerting himself in the prior North American hard-court swing tournaments.

Meanwhile, Wolf, the Cincinnati native currently ranked No. 248, is one of the wildcard entries into the 2026 US Open’s men’s singles main draw having won the tournament’s Wild Card Challenge in the buildup. The 27-year-old American though, is the clear underdog on paper against Bublik.

Wolf has mostly played ATP Challenger Tour-level events so far this year, and even though he won the Vancouver Challenger in style, his main draw appearance in Cincinnati as a qualifier culminated in a first-round loss, reflecting his inability to perform well on men’s tennis’ biggest stages given his current level of performances.

Remarkably, despite their wide gap in ranking, J.J. Wolf leads the head-to-head against Alexander Bublik 2-1. He also won a qualifying-round match against the Kazakh at the 2019 Cincinnati Masters.

Alexander Bublik vs J.J. Wolf prediction

Bublik’s booming serve, heavy forehand, accurate two-handed backhand and exceptional variety of shotmaking should see him secure a comfortable first-round win over Wolf at the 2026 US Open.

However, it’s worth noting that the Kazakh is prone to lapses in concentration. Even though Bublik has improved in this regard in recent seasons, if Wolf produces the very best of his powerful and dynamic baseline game, he could very well trouble the Kazakh.

The American will also have the New York crowd firmly on his side, which should make the environment somewhat hostile for Bublik. Ultimately though, if the Kazakh is on his game right from the get go, a straight-set victory seems the likeliest outcome.

Pick: Bublik to win in straight sets.

Alexander Bublik vs J.J. Wolf betting tips

Tip 1: Look out for live betting opportunities as Bublik could be quite rusty given his absence so far in the North American summer hard-court swing. If the Kazakh starts slow, Wolf could very well capitalize and take the first set.

Tip 2: Wolf has the stylistic blueprint to trouble Bublik on hard courts, but Bublik’s raw talent and elite serving make him tough to put away across five sets. If the match does go the distance, the total game count could surpass 38.5.
