TOURE’S STUNNING DOUBLE AS SOCCEROO JOINS EXCLUSIVE CLUB

Mohamed Toure has continued his blistering start to the season, scoring a quick-fire brace to fire Norwich City to their first EFL Championship victory of the campaign while joining an exclusive group in the process.

The Socceroos forward struck twice inside the opening 21 minutes as Norwich cruised to a dominant 4-1 victory over Burnley at Carrow Road on Sunday (AEST).

It was another statement performance from the 22-year-old, who has been linked with several clubs during the transfer window, including Mohamed Salah’s Trabzonspor in Turkiye and Nestory Irankunda’s Sporting CP in Portugal.

Toure returned to the starting side after being rested for Norwich’s midweek EFL Cup clash with Cardiff City and wasted little time making his presence felt.

His double took him to 10th and 11th goals from just 14 Championship appearances for Norwich since making his debut in February.

Only Ivan Toney, who reached double figures in 10 appearances, along with Jason Roberts, Diomansy Kamara, Marek Saganowski and Ross Stewart, who all did so in 13, have reached 10 Championship goals in fewer games.

“It’s good we could rest him against Cardiff,” Norwich boss Philipp Clemente told reporters post-game.

“We need this rotation. We have seven games in 22 days, with training in between and not many off days in between. It’s not possible so we will need all the squad for that.

“It’s not only about Mo, Andre (Brooks) or one player. It’s about everybody and every three days that every minute of the game we can go full power. That’s very important.”

Toure has now scored three goals in four appearances across all competitions this season, having also registered a goal and an assist in the EFL Cup.

VOLPATO’S ‘BANGER’ OPENS ACCOUNT BEFORE CLASSY WORLD CUP TRIBUTE

Cristian Volpato has opened his Serie A account for the season in stunning fashion, finding the back of the net as Sassuolo claimed a 2-1 victory over Torino.

The Socceroos midfielder produced a brilliant strike to break the deadlock and register his first goal of the 2026/27 Serie A campaign.

It was an emphatic way for Volpato to get off the mark, with the Australian making his impact felt as Sassuolo secured all three points.

But while the quality of the finish provided one of the highlights of the contest, it was what followed that made the moment even more meaningful.

Volpato used his celebration to pay tribute to injured Sassuolo teammate Ismael Kone, who suffered a broken leg at the World Cup.

The touching gesture added another layer to a memorable moment for the Socceroo, combining a stunning opening goal with a classy show of support for his sidelined teammate.

Volpato will now hope the strike can provide the platform for a strong campaign in Italy, having opened his scoring account in style while helping Sassuolo secure a 2-1 victory.

OKON-ENGSTLER CAPS RAPID RISE WITH BUNDESLIGA DEBUT

Paul Okon-Engstler has taken another major step in his rapid rise, making his Bundesliga debut from the starting XI in Köln’s opening game of the league season.

The 20-year-old Socceroo was handed an immediate opportunity in Germany’s top flight, starting and playing 65 minutes as Köln claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory over Hoffenheim.

After making his Socceroos breakthrough and securing his move to Germany, a Bundesliga start represents the latest milestone in what has been a rapid ascent for the 20-year-old.
