Man Utd and Carrick eye late loan move to sign “legendary” £30m striker after talks

Manchester United may well have a productive end to the summer transfer window, with INEOS seemingly still looking to make late additions to Michael Carrick’s squad before Tuesday’s deadline.

Two positions appear to be firmly on the agenda at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils searching for another left-back and a new forward.

United have already explored several options on the left side of defence, most recently Aston Villa star Ian Maatsen. The Red Devils made an enquiry over the Netherlands international over the weekend, however, Villa are reluctant to sanction a sale and are even preparing to offer Maatsen a new contract.

Carrick is also looking at adding another striker. His current options include Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee, whereas Marcus Rashford, Bryan Mbuemo and Matheus Cunha can also turn out centrally from their natural wide positions if needed.

Now, there has now been a new claim involving Atletico Madrid forward Alexander Sorloth.

Man Utd considering late Sorloth loan

Those at Old Trafford have been credited with an interest in Sorloth, holding talks with intermediaries, who offered the Norway international to the Red Devils as a potential late-window opportunity.

According to CaughtOffside, the 30-year-old could be available for around £30m, however, that might not be a fee United are willing to fork out.

In fact, one source told CaughtOffside that the Red Devils could now look at a loan deal instead, saying: “Alexander Sorloth has been offered to Manchester United, and, as of yet, they have not ruled out a move. Other clubs could be there too, so United need to decide fast. As things stand, I’m not sure they’d pay the £30m asking price, but they might try to negotiate a loan.”

Sorloth is not thought to be actively pushing to leave Atletico Madrid, but he could be open to the right opportunity if one emerged, with Newcastle United and Juventus also linked with the Norwegian.

A potential loan deal could make Sorloth an appealing option so late in the window. Rather than committing a significant permanent fee to another centre-forward, United could add an experienced alternative to Sesko while retaining flexibility for future transfer windows.

Sorloth would arrive at Old Trafford with previous Premier League experience from his spell at Crystal Palace, although his career has improved considerably since leaving Selhurst Park.

The towering 6ft 5 striker has enjoyed productive spells in Spain with Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, and his goalscoring ability was best on show against Real Sociedad in May 2025.

Sorloth scored four times for Atletico, including a record breaking hat-trick inside 11 minutes – something Opta described as “legendary”. That experience and goalscoring history could make him an interesting short-term solution for Carrick ahead of a busy campaign.

United already have Sesko to lead the line, so Sorloth would not necessarily need to arrive as an automatic starter, and by the looks of things, it may be one to keep an eye on before the deadline.
