Chelsea have been making fresh moves to sign AFC Bournemouth star Alex Scott ahead of the January transfer window.
It may be important for Xabi Alonso to get a new central midfielder through the door this winter, having failed to bring in a direct replacement for Enzo Fernandez, which has forced Malo Gusto and Reece James to play in the middle of the park recently.
Gus Poyet has made it clear Alonso needs a natural midfielder to return before too long, saying: “Chelsea, we need [Moises] Caicedo back as soon as possible. We need [Romeo] Lavia to be fit, we need Reece James to be fit. And we need [Valentin] Barco to step up and adapt quickly and perform.
“And because the players that normally don’t play or they get injured, they’re not going to be there. Something is going to be missing. And we saw that already with Gusto playing centre-midfielder. Are we going to play all the right-backs as centre midfielders now?”
BlueCo’s hands are tied until January, but Scott could be a savvy signing this winter, having received major plaudits from former Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake.
Upon signing the Englishman from Bristol City, Blake said: “We are delighted to welcome Alex, who is one of the most exciting young players in Europe. He’s a player who has vast experience at such a young age, with strong technical ability and a really good footballing brain.”
The 23-year-old has since become a key player for the Cherries, starting all three of their Premier League matches this season, and he has impressed from both a defensive and attacking point of view.
An average of 2.4 tackles per 90 ranks him joint-first in Marco Rose’s squad, whereas a tally of four chances created places him in joint-second, alongside Marcus Tavernier, and he has managed to get on the scoresheet on one occasion.

Chelsea making moves to sign Alex Scott in 2027
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea have been making fresh moves to secure Scott’s signature in the January transfer window, but a deal could be very expensive, as he is known to have a price tag of around £78m.
The Bournemouth maestro is keen to take the next step in his career by completing a move to Stamford Bridge, and he has emerged as a strong target, although AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara is still of interest.
The Blues had agreed to sign Camara on deadline day, but the deal ended up falling through, as Monaco backed out, so it remains to be seen whether it will be possible to negotiate with the French club again.
