IND vs AFG: India opener Abhishek Sharma has made it clear that his aggressive batting philosophy will not change after his match-winning performance against Afghanistan in the opening T20I in Delhi.

The left-hander produced one of his most destructive innings for India on Sunday, smashing 82 runs from just 32 balls to help India chase down Afghanistan’s 156/8 with seven wickets in hand. His explosive knock featured seven fours and seven sixes, setting the tone for a dominant Indian run chase at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Abhishek’s innings came at an important moment for the young opener, who had endured a series of relatively low scores in recent matches. His previous half-century for India had come in July, when he scored 59 against England in Chester-le-Street.

Rather than allowing a string of failures to affect his natural game, Abhishek insisted that he would continue to attack opposition bowling from the beginning.

According to Abhishek, that strategy had produced significant success and should not be discarded simply because the team or individual players experience a few poor series.

For an opening batter, he believes the priority remains unchanged: attack early, score quickly and provide the side with a strong platform.

That philosophy was perfectly demonstrated in Delhi, where Abhishek’s 32-ball assault dramatically changed the nature of India’s chase.

Abhishek was not alone in India’s aggressive approach.

Ishan Kishan played an important supporting role at No. 3, scoring a stylish 42 runs and forming a rapid 121-run partnership with Abhishek.

The partnership effectively ended Afghanistan’s hopes of defending their total.

Kishan’s contribution was particularly valuable because it ensured that India’s scoring rate remained high even when Abhishek was eventually dismissed. The left-handed batter looked comfortable throughout his stay at the crease and continued the momentum created by India’s opener.

India’s captain Shreyas Iyer then completed the chase, remaining unbeaten on eight.

The victory gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

Shreyas Iyer Praises India’s Batting Pair

India captain Shreyas Iyer was full of praise for both Abhishek and Kishan after the comfortable victory.

Iyer highlighted the quality of Abhishek’s strokeplay, describing his batting as flawless and pointing to several shots as examples of high-quality T20 cricket.

The captain also praised Kishan’s current form and his attitude within the Indian dressing room.

Iyer noted that Kishan has remained relaxed and composed during training and matches while showing a clear understanding of his own game.

For India, having two confident left-handed batters capable of attacking from the top of the order provides another major advantage in the shortest format.

Arshdeep and Bumrah Lead India’s Bowling Attack

India’s victory was set up by an impressive bowling performance.

Arshdeep Singh was the standout bowler, finishing with excellent figures of 3/19. His ability to take crucial wickets while restricting Afghanistan’s scoring prevented the visitors from posting a more competitive total.

Jasprit Bumrah also made a successful return to international action. The experienced fast bowler delivered his four overs economically and finished with 1/26.

Bumrah’s return will be particularly encouraging for India as the team looks ahead to a busy international schedule. His control during the Afghanistan innings showed why he remains one of the most influential fast bowlers in T20 cricket.

Azmatullah Omarzai’s Fighting Half-Century Goes in Vain

Afghanistan struggled to build partnerships at the top of their innings, but Azmatullah Omarzai provided the resistance they needed.

However, the total ultimately proved insufficient against India’s powerful batting line-up.

The seven-wicket victory means India now lead the three-match series 1-0.

With Abhishek back among the runs, Ishan Kishan in strong form and Bumrah returning successfully, India will take plenty of confidence into the second T20I.

The next match will also be played in Delhi, giving Afghanistan an immediate opportunity to respond and level the series.

For Abhishek, however, the biggest takeaway from the opening game is that India’s attacking philosophy remains intact.

His 82 from 32 balls was a powerful reminder of what he can offer when he finds his rhythm. More importantly, the opener has shown that a few low scores will not force him away from the aggressive style that has become a defining part of his game.
